Rt. Rev. Abraham Galuak Majok has been Pardoned, and Reinstated as the bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Duk Padiet in Central Province
The Primate and Metropolitan Archbishop of The Anglican Church of South Sudan His Grace Most Rev John Machar Thon in his capacity after consultation with the College of Bishops and the Council of the Archbishops have given pardon to Bishop Abraham Galuak Majok Ater on the 4th Sunday after Pentecost June 25, 2023, in Juba South Sudan. Bishop Galuak was dismissed from his episcopal office on June 28, 2020, following the staging of heresy teaching, misleading the priest and churches in Duk Dioceses and other priests in Juba to create chaos in the church and his ambitions to announce himself and other members as the new leadership of the church contrary to the existing leadership few months ahead of his consecration as the Bishop of the diocese of Amiel and continued with the act despite his consecration by the same Primate and Metropolitan Archbishop. Bishop Galuak was first ordained as Assistant Bishop of the Diocese of Juba tasked by the Primate to oversee administrative issues and when permitted and/or commissioned to exercise limited episcopal activities.
Duk Padiet Diocese was still under the leadership of His Grace the Primate. After the consultative meeting toward the election of the new Bishop in the Diocese of Duk Padiet, the Diocese consulted with the Primate and Requested the College of Bishops to Translated and Consecrate the Assistant Bishop Abraham Galuak for the Diocese of Duk Padiet and Amiel Area. The College gave the approval for the elevation of the Amiel as Area Diocese and later Bishop Abraham Galuak was consecrated in Juba as Bishop of Amiel but overseeing Duk Padiet Diocese as well until the new Bishop will be appointed.
As the situation unfolds after his dismissal depriving him of his ministerial roles and duties by the Primate pending investigation and affirmation by the Council of Archbishops, Bishop Abraham, and some priests did not heed the direction and counsel provided, hence prompting the Council of Archbishops to Approved his Dismissal and Withdrawal of Ecclesiastical Powers through Deposition of him from the Office of the Bishop in the Diocese on March 28, 2021, until his case will be resolved or pardoned.
Following the resolution of the conflict and the acceptance by the church leadership to which the council of archbishops has given the right of pardon to Abraham Galuak and asked the Primate to reinstate him into his episcopal office, Bishop Abraham has been fully reinstated after the pardoned and now fully translated to the Diocese of Duk Padiet as the Bishop. He is going to work hand in hand with his Archbishop of the Central Province and his counterparts of other dioceses as usual. Following his reinstatement at the Cathedral of Saints, Rock-City, Juba, Bishop Abraham was officially welcomed back to episcopal jurisdiction by the Most Rev. Paul Chol Deng Akuei, the Dean of the Church of South Sudan and Bishop of Renk Diocese and licensed as the Episcopal See of the diocese of Duk Padiet from the effect of his reinstatement.
It is to be known that, Bishop Abraham Galuak Majok was pardoned, reinstated, and re-license as the previous license was revoked but did not go through the re-ordination process as he was never under Degradation as per the canonical laws of this church, he was placed under Deprivation and later Deposition from the episcopal office by the Council of Archbishops for such time as the highest authority deems necessary for his discipline and change as opposed to Degradation which would have “a total removal from Holy Orders” in which case the person if pardoned, must undergo reordination.
