Church History

The Anglican church of South Sudan is an independent church formed on the biblical call of God to serve, spreading the Gospel for furthering the Kingdom of the Almighty God both spiritually and with physical development. Anglican Church of South Sudan uses the holistic approach believing that God instituted all the institutions and by his grace place them on the world and therefore must use his word as the binding rule and fundamental key to success. The church believe in evangelism, preaching the good news to reach the poor, un-reached, and the lost souls that our Lord died on the cross for so that they can be saved. Anglican Church of South Sudan was formed through the reformation process that took place in Episcopal Church of Sudan in the year 2003 when many senior pastors refuted the decision to joint hand with gay bishop in the Episcopal Church of America so that support could flow to Sudan. Many of these senior pastors were consecrated during reformation as bishops in various dioceses of Sudan reform Episcopal Church. On the 11th November 2004, Seven (7) of the consecrated bishops through the reformation process called for a conference that was attended by the clergy and laity as an extra-ordinary synod. The conference renamed the church to be “Anglican church of South Sudan” and elected the Archbishop to be “John Machar Thon” who was a bishop of Duk diocese.
