Consecration and Enthronement of the Second Bishop in the Anglican Diocese of Juba and Diaspora Missions
Bishop John Chol Awuol has remained a dedicated and committed servant of the Lord, having serve the church and the Lord’s flock for the most of his entire life, he is the only person fit to be the second Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Juba and by extension the Diaspora Missions to which the College of Bishops has directed the Church to prioritize. – Consecration Order as read on behalf of Registrar General, May 26, 2024 AD.
On the First Sunday after the Day of Pentecost, the 26 May 2024, The Most Rev. John Machar Thon, Primate and Metropolitan Archbishop of The Anglican Church of South Sudan presided over the consecration and Enthronement of the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Juba and Diaspora Missions, Rt. Rev. John Chol Awuol Riak. The Consecration came on the week of Pentecost as the College of Bishops’s conference concludes with the fellowship, prayers, and new strategic direction for the Church.
The Right Reverend John Chol Awuol Riak, who was elected by the Church in 2018 to be Bishop of the Diocese of Juba was consecrated and enthroned as the Second Bishop of the Diocese with the extension of his administration and leadership extending to all the Anglican Diaspora Missions such as Uganda, Kenya, Australia and United States of America among others, especially for the South Sudanese Anglican members in those areas.
The consecration and enthronement ceremony conducted at St Peter and Paul Anglican Church in Juba was attended by all Bishops present at the College of Bishops, the congregations in Juba central diocese as well as those coming from far such as the Bishop Commissary of Kenya Mission and Representatives from other dioceses. The Rt. Rev John Chol who has been a rector in Juba and Secretary General of the Church is a well-trained clergy who loves Christ and has devoted his entire career to supporting the Church and Christ’s Mission. Previously, John served in the Diocese of Duk as a senior priest and Administrative Secretary of the Diocese for over 13 years since 2004 before he was posted to Juba as a Rector and Administrator. He has facilitated training, led church missions, and performed administrative functions with humility, perseverance, and dedication.
Bishop John Chol was brought up in a Christian family and is happily married to Rebecca Agot Mawut, a dedicated Christian and wife. God has blessed them with two boys so far and by August 6, 2024, (the upcoming Day of Transfiguration) they will be celebrating their 9th marriage anniversary. The Diocese and all Missions have welcomed wholeheartedly Bishop John Chol whom many know as the most humble servant of the Lord since his childhood.
